a Saturday in Brooklyn

Ein Samstag in Brooklyn, die Sonne knallt.. ich brauchte eine Sonnenbrille. Was tun, natürlich: Flohmarkt! Ich mußte mich arg zusammenreißen nichts großformatiges zu kaufen, dass am Ende nicht in den Koffer passt.
Danach ein Spaziergang auf der Promenade in Brooklyn Heights, mit Panoramablick auf Manhattan und Soft-Eis von einem Eis Truck. Eigentlich hätte ich gern das handgemachte Eis von der Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory gekostet, aber die Schlange war so mega lang, da sind wir lieber weiter zum Karussell geschlendert, die strahlenden Kinder (und Erwachsenen) beobachtet und im Brooklyn Bridge Park die Sonne genossen. Was für eine Aussicht! Die könnte ich jeden Samstag haben.

A saturday in Brooklyn and I needed sunglasses. So we went to see the fleamarket and I had to pull myself together from not buying stuff that doesn't fit in my suitcase. After the fleamarket we took the train to Brookly Heights and strolled down the promenade. Sadly we couldn't get the homemade ice cream at the Fulton Ferry Pier... too many people waiting in line. So we picked up a cup from an ice cream truck and went on to see Jane's Carousel with the smiling kids (and adults). Finally we relaxed at the Brooklyn Bridge Park. What a fantastic view.
laser cut letters

Neulich war ich in meinem alten Atelier zum Buchstaben lasern. Statt meiner Druckpressen steht da nämlich jetzt ein Lasercutter und eine CNC Fräse, die bald als Fab Lab für jedermann zugänglich sein werden.
Die Buchstaben haben wir heute mal abgedruckt, ich wollte testen wie gut das Sperrholz performt. Für den Laser war der Sperrholzkleber zu hart, so dass der Laser nicht vollständing das Holz trennte. Zum drucken eignet sich dieses Sperrholz aber wunderbar.
Heute stand Elsa an der Korrex, sie ist Französin und meine neue Teilzeit Praktikantin. Ich genieße ihre Hilfe sehr, vieles geht schneller und leichter zu zweit.
Seit zwei Wochen ist sie jetzt da und ihr werdet ihre Hände bestimmt noch öfter auf Fotos entdecken, außerdem überrede ich sie gerade einen Guest Post zu schreiben.
Die Buchstaben kommen übrigens an die Wand, Small Caps wird dort stehen wenn alle Lettern fertig sind, bis jetzt haben wir erst Smalp. :)

Things evolve this year: Elsa is my new part time trainee and I enjoy her help very much. She's french but doesn't like café au lait to my surprise.
Today we had a lot of fun printing these lasercut letters on the proof press. I let them made in my old atelier that now turns into the fab lab and houses a laser and a CNC. The fab lab will be soon open to everybody in Berlin, check their site for more info.
For the first try I am happy with the results. We sticked the wood with spray mount on MDF and used cardboard to get it type high.
The prints spell out Small Caps when finished and go on the wall. :)

In neun Tagen kann ich mich endlich selbst davon überzeugen, ob die Stadt wirklich so überwältigend großartig ist wie in meiner Vorstellung. Endlich, endlich geht es nach New York. Wart ihr schon einmal dort?
Wir werden in Brooklyn Park Slope unterkommen und ich bin mega gespannt auf diesen Ort. Etwas Angst habe ich nicht alles schaffen zu können was auf meiner Wunschliste steht: Brooklyn Flea, Chelsea Market, Greenwich Village, Coney Island, Guggenheim, MoMa, Central Park, Ground Zero, High Line Park und so weiter. Was hat euch dort am besten gefallen?
Die fabelhaft gestalteten Stadtpläne sind übrigens von Herb Lester.

Nine days to go and I'll wake up in the city that never sleeps. I am over the top excited, New York was on our travel list for years and needed a well planning. We'll stay in Brooklyn Park Slope and I can't wait to stroll down the alleys. I am a little bit anxious not to get to all the places on my list : Brooklyn Flea, Chelsea Market, Greenwich Village, Coney Island, Guggenheim, MoMa, Central Park, Ground Zero, High Line Park and so on. Have you ever been in New York an what did you like the most?

Das neue Material lässt sich zu Rahmen kombinieren, einen anderen Gedanken kriege ich fast nicht in den Kopf. Kleine, dicke, dünne oder verschnörkelte - einer ist bislang fertig.
